Senate President Rosenberg, Senator Tarr Announce First Annual Senate Food Drive

BOSTON—Today, Senate President Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst) and Senator Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) held the 1st annual Senate Food Drive in which donations collected will provide 246 healthy meals for those in need. Canned goods and dry goods were collected throughout the week of September 18 – 22 and all items were donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank.

“Hunger is a reality everywhere that continues to impact far too many members of our community,” said Senate President Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst). “I’m proud of the Senate for coming together to help people dealing with issues related to hunger and providing people the nourishment they need.”

“Food is a fundamental need and far too many people regularly go without the nutrition and sustenance that they need,” said Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester). “By partnering with the Greater Boston Food Bank the members and staff of the Senate are working together to make a very real difference in the lives of people who need this food.”

“We are so thankful to Senate President Rosenberg and Senate Minority Leader Tarr for initiating this food drive among their Senate colleagues and staff,” said Catherine Drennan, Public Affairs Manager at the Greater Boston Food Bank. “With September as Hunger Action Month, it is the perfect time to get involved and do something to help us end hunger here. In total, the Senate and their staff collected enough food to help us provide more than 246 healthy meals to those in need across Eastern Massachusetts.”

The items were presented to the Greater Boston Food Bank in a ceremony at the State House on Wednesday, September 27th.
